Minister Apologises For Assaulting Woman At Night Club

A South African deputy higher education minister on Monday apologized for assaulting a woman at a night club.Mduduzi Manana was accused of being part of a group of men who kicked and punched three women at a Johannesburg night club early Sunday, the broadcaster eNCA reported.

The South African Government News Agency, SA News, said police had opened a case against Manana.
“Regardless of the extreme provocation, I should have exercised restraint,” Manana said in the statement seen by dpa.
He apologised “unreservedly” to Mandisa Duma, who was reportedly injured, her family, the government and all South Africans, especially women, pledging to “address the harm that has occurred.”
Manana only apologised to Duma but SA News said he had assaulted two women.
According to eNCA, the attack allegedly took place after a woman called Manana gay.
Police Minister Fikile Mbalula said he took the case very seriously, adding: “Women deserve love and protection from all of us.”
