Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has reacted to Yaya
Toure's apology, highlighting the importance of the Ivorian's gesture
for the club.
Toure issued a statement on Friday morning
in which he apologised for the 'misunderstandings' between himself and
the Manchester City since the arrival of Guardiola from Bayern Munich.
Guardiola who has refused to pick Toure since his representative Dimitri Seluk claimed the midfielder had been humiliated by his omission from the club's Champions League squad early in September has described Toure's apology on behalf of his agent as "so important for Manchester City".
Guardiola
says he appreciates the apology and appears willing to offer the
midfielder an olive branch and possible way back into the team.
However, Guardiola did not say whether he would start picking Toure
again - having only selected him once in five games prior to the
stand-off - but implied he would be ready if called upon. That is
because Toure has continued to work with the squad throughout his exile.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Saturday's Premier League
clash with Middlesbrough, Guardiola who appears to be willing to offer
the midfielder a possible way back into the team said: "I spoke with
Yaya today. Of course it is a private conversation. I know what happened
and what he says.
"Of course it is so important for Manchester
City, that is the most important thing, and of course for Yaya, who I
appreciate and have known from a long time ago.
"Yaya is in all our meetings and training sessions. You knew the situation, nothing has changed." said Guardiola.Guardiola had demanded that Seluk apologised but, with that not forthcoming, Toure took matters into his own hands on Friday in an attempt to end the impasse.
