Southampton 0-2 Chelsea: Moses Shines In Blues Win

Chelsea continued their fine run in the premier league with their fourth consecutive victory in a 2-0 away win against Southampton this evening.
Eden Hazard opened scoring with a beautiful solo effort in the first half before Diego Costa curled an effort past Fraser Forster in goal for the Saints.

Blues manager Antonio Conte retained the same starting XI that defeated Manchester United last weekend and Nigerian Victor Moses was again at his very best with daring runs down the right while Ryan Bertrand returned to the Southampton line-up a four-week layoff.
First Half
The visitors ran into an early lead as Eden Hazard produced a moment of magic, dancing through the defence before slotting the ball in between the legs of the Southampton goalkeeper.
That goal spurred the home side into action as Steven Davis freekick was headed just wide from Charlie Austin. Dusan Tadic came close to equalising for the Saints but his effort was well saved by Belgian Thibaut Courtois.
Southampton continued to dominate possession but failed to find a way past the Blues backline and at the other end Victor Moses received the ball from Hazard on a counter but his right foot shot was punched away for a corner.
Chelsea had two chances to increase their lead just before the break but Costa and Hazard both failed to convert as the half ended 1-0.
Second Half
Antonio Conte’s men began the second period like they did with the first as Diego Costa doubled the lead. He picked up a pass from Eden Hazard from 25yard and while the Belgian was expecting a return pass, he looked straight and curled one past Fraser Forster.
The same Costa-Hazard combination opened up space for the Belgian but he miscues his shot. Chelsea nearly made it three when Moses’s shot was spilled by Forster but Pedro failed to convert the rebound as Southampton recovered.
Davids almose got one goal back for the home side but his shot came back off the post after a wicked deflection from David Luiz. That was the closet any of the side came to scoring as it ended 2-0 in favour of the Blues who go fourth with 22 points while Southampton stay ninth on the premier league log.
