England in The Hunt For Wenger To Replace Allardyce

Arsene Wenger could be the man to replace Sam Allardyce as the England manager, with the FA poised to approach the Arsenal manager again, according to the Daily Mail.

It is believed the FA approached Wenger in the summer about taking up the England job, but was reportedly turned down by the Frenchman before they settled for Allardyce.

But with Allardyce vacating the position on Tuesday after only 67 days in charge, it is reported Wenger will again be sought out.

Allardyce departed his role as England manager after being filmed trying to secure a £400,000 deal for speaking appearances as part of an investigation.

The former Sunderland manager also offered advice on how businessmen could circumvent the FA's third party ownership rules.

Wenger’s contract with Arsenal expires at the end of the season, and with Gareth Southgate placed in caretaker charge of England for the four games against Malta, Slovenia, Scotland and Spain, the FA would look to appoint the Frenchman at the conclusion of his deal, the report claims.

The report also claims the FA may however struggle to get Wenger, as his present employers, Arsenal, are hopeful of agreeing a contract extension with him.

Allardyce won his first and only game in charge of the national team, a 1-0 victory against Slovakia.
